In a recent act of Christian terrorism in America, a Planned Parenthood was targeted in an arson attack in McKinney, Texas. But I’ll bet you didn’t hear about it–and if you did, I’ll bet you didn’t hear the criminals described as being almost certainly “Christian”. Why do you suppose that is?
We all started reading books rather broadly once the printing press was invented (almost 600 years ago), and since then we have largely substituted ideas and words for observation and participation in life itself. Now I am afraid it will become texts, videos and screens that will shield us from reality.
History and economics tell us that cutting government spending in a period of low or negative economic growth runs a severe risk of slowing growth even further, and yet they’ve made deficit reduction their primary political goal. In response to one of the greatest economic disasters in recent memory, the American Republican Party has become even more hard-line and rigid in its ideology.
