Article/Audio: “Barton On Spanking: ‘We Do The Same Thing With Horses'”

Barton argues that a judge had no right to convict her because, he explained, the Bible justifies and even encourages spanking. He claims that if anything parents should spank their children not with their hands but with “belts or hairbrushes (sic), or they can use a paddle or whatever it is,” because “always in the Bible discipline is with a rod, it’s not with a hand.” Barton goes on to say “we do the same thing with horses,” saying spanking children is like beating horses with a rod or crop.

  1. What an uneducated nutjob. I was spanked, and I grew up okay, but a little bit learning theory will elucidate how unnecessary spanking/beating is. Ditto for non-humans.

    • Jen,

Barton is a ‘Faux Noise’ favorite and right-wing history revisionist seeking to rewrite history through the pedestrian prism of a religious apologist. One should ignore his—as well as anyone else’s—religious rants, for he is as ignorant as the Philistines to which he spews his poison.

I too was raised at the tip of a leather belt, and while it did teach me right from wrong, I, and many others, realize and see the greater harm it rendered. Corporal punishment says more about the striker than it does about the transgressor.
