  1. Hello there oldancestor,

    Great comment.

One must look at what she said critically. She stated that, “faith, by definition, is believing in things without evidence, and personally, I don’t do that because I’m not an idiot.”

She did two things in that very powerful sentence, she defined the word faith, and, in first person, claimed that she was not an idiot. Let’s evaluate what she said.

Firstly, she stated that, “faith, by definition, is believing in things without evidence.” According to the New Oxford American dictionary, faith is defined as a “strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.” So, her stated definition of faith is factual.

Secondly, she personally claimed not to be an idiot. Idiot is an interesting word; it describes one with a mental age below three years. Well, what have we here? Someone with a mental age below three years would certainly believe in things without evidence, for they do not have the mental capacity to understand evidence in the abstract. Her refusal to personally believe in things without evidence is consistent with not having a mental age below three years. So, her claim not to be an idiot is also factual.

“I’d rather see her use sound reason to make a point than to throw cheap insults.” She did exactly that. As shown, she did use sound reason, and threw no cheap insults. If one were insulted by what she said, then they are solely responsible for their feeling insulted, not her.

Also, where is it written that religious belief has a right not to be insulted? Religious belief is irrational, and it deserves to be insulted.

    In Reason,
    Madison

  2. Meh. She makes us look like the ***holes a lot of Christians claim we are. I’d rather see her use sound reason to make a point than to throw cheap insults.
