  1. This “On the Vanity of Existence” is about as good an exposition on human existence you’ll find. Indeed, no matter our vainglorious victories amidst the sea of life, who doesn’t eventually arrive back at harbor battered and dismasted? Schopenhauer, at least for me however, is far too densely woven to grasp in an audio. Better to download the essay and read in print.

  2. Yes. The price of sapience. A sapient species that doesn’t find a way to goad itself will be too passive to do well I suppose. A pity ‘just good enough’ is what we ended up with.
    Interestingly, the text version I brought up to follow on varied so much from this translation I couldn’t even keep my place.
