Nicely explained. From Reagan on, the overarching strategy of the Republican party has been to eliminate the “common” from the foundational idea of a “common good”. Hard-won victories in public education, civil rights, voting rights, and labor unions are now eroding, withering under a constant attack from the right and aided by apathy and ignorance among those in the political center, those who, ironically, will lose the most by the disappearance of the notion of a common good.
