I enjoy the company of people but, all in all, I prefer to be in the company of writers through their works. I seldom find dinner parties, parties in general, or most social gatherings to be nearly as interesting as a book or essay on a topic in which I am truly interested. This means being physically alone but not, I think, mentally. Indeed I feel I am often in better company. Actually, there is no such thing as being “alone” in an absolute fashion. No human can ever can ever escape influence. Whether or not that influence “contaminates” is, to a great extent, up to you.

He says as he seeks to influence and contaminate society. 😉
