Such statistics must go some way to showing why religious people such as Isaac Newton and Copernicus did so little for the sciences. I could not help but notice also that the poll information also showed a divide between the northern and southern states. Might it be the case that all these very clever Atheists in the northern states drive the south into deeper poverty because of their lack of belief in justice and in a final arbiter for history? There are just so many variables that this debate sinks into absurdity rather fast.
Come to think of it – why is it that it is only ever the ‘stupid’ religious people I see manning the soup kitchens and helping the homeless? This must be a symptom of stupidity.
