The Six Moral Dealbreakers of Christianity

  1. These are really good insights. Irregardless of what Christianity’s morals are (or were in biblical times) , god and followers of god in the bible systematically failed to live up to their own moral standards. One of the main problems with any organized religion that claims to have absolute truth is that beliefs, norms, morals, etc are ambiguous, contested and changeable over place and time. Thanks for sharing.

  2. i totally agree. It is too bad that this goth dude looks so much like a teen nerdy girl that it is kinda hard to get across. i find it easier to take in when not seeing this dude speak! I guess it is sad to say that this is why sometimes people either fear straying too far from or run from the main stream. If this guy was a little less teen-girl looking, he would be heard and taken more seriously by a lot of people. I am glad that i live in a time though that we are able to think and speak like this… especially looking so unusual! I am so glad that i was not born during the inquisition!

    • I follow her quite a bit – and am rarely disappointed. People take her seriously – who matter. At least in the microcosm of YouTube, the atheist community has noticed. She however, also receives an incredible amount of gender-queer threats and hatred (mostly from trolls and the like). I know that’s not you – but expecting her to conform to heteronormative gender expression to be “taken seriously” is NOT her problem, it’s the problem of the people who, for whatever reason, can’t get over it.

      • I know. (am i to call them her? oops!) Living in San Francisco, i am very ok with gender issues that others have. I thought what she said was really well said and thought. I guess we are just still at a time where what is new is strange. I am sure that there are some awful people out there towards her and a lot of not so awful people out there writing her off due to their looks. Funny how it is easy for one to dismiss a book based on the cover no matter what the book says inside so to speak. Ignorance and fear has been so built into us here in america, it is very scary. Our people have become so accustom to judging and fearing those within their own community so that if needed we will have a much hard time organizing. Because if the people of the US actually got on the same page, they could possibly put up a pretty good fight to stop this current fall of western civilization. And the bible can not save us from the corruption and greed that is taking our utopia for themselves. Thanks for giving your feedback! I am so glad you chose to join the conversation!! 🙂 I think i will be following her too now that i found out about her. She really states her ideas well.

      • Zie doesn’t care so much about which gender zie is referred to as, and zie doesn’t identify as transgender. (I assume that is because zie doesn’t have body dysphoria, but I don’t know and I’m not going to pry.) Zie presents hirself as female however, so I usually use female-specific pronouns for hir.

Zie is actually quite young, so it simply makes sense that zie looks young. I actually like hir style a lot and it’s changed over the years. It’s interesting looking though hir old videos and seeing how zie slowly comes to realize hir own identify and orientation. I really hate to make it an issue though – at all – simply because zie is confronted with so much vitriol, insults and threats revolving around hir gender expression that it boggles the mind.

Even someone who sees herself as forward-thinking and comfortable with non-conformist gender-expression says things like, “It helps if you don’t directly look right at him.” I know ZJ seems to be able to deal with that sort of thing (and I hope that is actually the truth of the matter), but I know my nephew and many others with body dysphoria would be extremely hurt and angered by that statement.

There is a fine line between being realistic about prevalent but problematic attitudes – and well – being awful. Unfortunately, you are absolutely right that life is going to be more difficult for ZJ and some people are going to dismiss hir because of their own hang-ups.

Before my nephew came to live with me I was really naive about such issues (still am really – but not as much) and I’ve learned a lot from him.

I am glad you have decided to follow ZJ!! ZJ has lots of videos – but I tell you – unless you want to be continually appalled and run the risk of completely losing your faith in humanity – it helps not to look directly at the comments.
