Our ‘moral compass’ is much older : it’s genetically hardwired into our brain , and it’s not strictly human either. All social animals have it , because it is necessary for survival in group.
Without it, we would all just be psychopaths.
Yes, individuals make choices but it’s society that anoints certain things as either “good” or “bad”. Morals are social constructions.
