  1. While I am a Krugman fan, this theme is an oversimplification in pursuit of making a larger point. The current mantra–that the growing influence of minorities in the electorate will lean toward more liberal policies in the future–is not a given. There are also significant conservative strains among some minorities, especially Catholic Hispanics and the religious in other minority groups. Minorities also have a way of skewing conservative when they become larger economic and political forces. Consider, for example, white European ethnics who have largely erased from their collective memory the class struggles of their parents and grandparents.
