The idea that Protestantism is what grounded Capitalism in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is an interesting one but really more notional than anything clearly observable. I lean more toward Marx and the idea that religious impulses produce passivity rather than action.
I never was a big Weber fan, and have always admired Marx.
