Sometimes you read a sentence and you think to yourself: only here, only us. Here’s one such sentence.
“A 9-year-old girl from New Jersey accidentally shot and killed her instructor with an Uzi submachine gun while he stood to her left side, trying to guide her.”
Well said, I live in England and couldn’t believe the piece of film … over here we’re just stupid!
Well said, Mr. Pitts. One of the reasons we, as a nation, have trouble dealing with today’s issues–race, guns, labor-management strife, sexuality, and too-many-to-count foreign entanglements–is our self-congratulating historical narrative. Recommend reading James R. Grossman’s commentary, “The New History Wars,” in the New York Times of September 2. We need to gain some balance between the things that make us exceptional and the things that also make us exceptionally stupid. We’re only human, we’re not superheroes.
