Always Question Authority 
The Democrats were trampled partly because the Senate Dems and the White House did not work together. However, the Senate Dems are trying lay all the on the White House which is B.S. The White House can share in the blame but the real reason the Dems lost the Senate is that they are gutless. If they had not cut-and-run on the ACA, and actually talked up its merits, and got the millions that now have insurance to the polls, they could have done much better, probably even retained the Senate. But Senate Dems couldn’t sell ice to Eskimos.
I wish the Senate Dems would now obstruct everything the Republicans try to do but they can’t. Why? Because while the Republicans can get away with it, the gutless Dems will be unable to sell obstructionism to America while the Republicans could do it brazenly and they can do it brazenly because they are amoral.
The other reason Democrats can’t get shit done is because of the Blue Dog Dems, that craven group who have no political philosophy at all except getting elected.
Which all goes to say that perhaps Democrats and Progressives simply cannot govern in this climate, much less get elected. For whatever reason, the political zeitgeist in America is squarely in the Dark Ages–rejection of science, rejection of reason, rejection of compassion, rejection of education, rejection, rejection, rejection. Only the Kochs, priests, preachers, and political con men have their ear for now. The other great ally of Republicans is apathy.
Hopefully we will emerge from the cave eventually but I see no light anywhere and its a steep climb now following the disaster of 2014. The political landscape will be radioactive for many years to come.
