This sentiment led Cady to join others in producing The Woman’s Bible around 1895. The idea was to recast the Hebrew and Christian scriptures in a less patriarchal framework. It had the ironic effect, however, of creating a lot of consternation among women’s rights groups, especially among suffragists and the temperance movement, many of whom were justifying their causes on Christian tropes. Fascinating story.
