Perfectly put — as an ideal for humankind, something to strive for. For many of us, intellectual freedom is our oxygen, without it we wither. For way too many others, the reality seems to be totally different. Without someone to tell them what to think, how to act, they become agitated, fearful, distrustful, and angry. Free thought versus dictated thought. How do we bridge this divide? The old liberal panacea was education but education today is debauched, part of the political matrix. Education, like religion, is indoctrination.
We are not in a good place.
