CANNABIS: “Jeff Sessions Faces Backlash from States After Abrupt Marijuana Policy Change” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

Attorney General Jeff Sessions decided to abruptly rescind an Obama-era guideline on legal marijuana known as the ‘Cole memo’ which outlines the federal government’s enforcement priorities for pot, while specifically omitting an outright ban on the sale and distribution of it altogether. This prompted swift and severe backlash from states that have legalized marijuana, as the $10 billion dollar industry is an economic boon, and Sessions is signaling that he now wants to pull the rug out from under them.

PROGRESSIVE INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM: “Hillary Clinton Got a Reality Check in Wales” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

Hillary Clinton recently made a visit to Wales to accept an honorary doctorate from Swansea University, and she didn’t receive the reception she’s used to receiving at home. Not only did a student yell “Bernie would’ve won” at her, but she was also interviewed by a reporter that wouldn’t allow her to dodge questions easily.

PROGRESSIVE INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM: “Anti-Net Neutrality Politicians Exposed as Industry Shills on Billboards Across Country” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

Fight for the Future, an organization fighting for net neutrality, placed billboards across the country that put anti-net neutrality politicians on blast, telling constituents to call and ask them why they’re shilling for Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T. It’s a great exercise in accountability, and important in the fight to protect net neutrality.

PROGRESSIVE INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM: “Televangelists Keep Exposing Their Own Hypocrisy” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

It’s been a difficult week for televangelists in this country like Joel Olsteen, Pat Robertson, and Jim Bakker because they keep showing how averse they really are to Christ’s message, thus inadvertently revealing their own hypocrisy. In this segment we’ll talk about these fraudulent, self-interested preachers and discuss their true intentions: exploit religion to profit off of their followers.

PROGRESSIVE INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM: “Joy Reid and Joan Walsh FINALLY Get Called on Their Bullsh!t” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

Joan Walsh and Joy Reid are credited for coining the term, “alt left.” What does it mean? Nothing. It’s simply a smear used to equate the overtly racist “alt right” with anti-racist, pro-equality progressives. Recently, to their dismay, President Trump appropriated their “alt left” term, which prompted another pundit, David Shuster, to call on them to apologize for giving Trump a word to use to perpetuate the false equivalence between two diametrically opposing sides. Instead, they refused to apologize and implied Shuster was racist and sexist for suggesting they should, and he subsequently put them in their place… and it was glorious.

CANNABIS: “Vermont’s Legislature Voted to Legalize W-E-E-D!” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

The state of Vermont delivered some good news to us! Their legislature passed a bill legalizing recreational marijuana. Although their Republican Governor is a self-proclaimed “marijuana skeptic” and may veto it, the passage of the bill is a victory in and of itself seeing that it marks the first time recreational marijuana has passed legislatively.

PROGRESSIVE INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM: “It’s Time for So-called Liberal Comedians to Shut the Fuck Up” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

If you’re a millennial, there’s a good chance you’ve looked up to liberal comedians not just for their comedic value, but as a legitimate source of political information. However, once these liberal comedians realized how much their young audiences disliked the Democratic Party establishment, they decided to begin scolding us into submission, and berating us for legitimate concerns we have with establishment figures like Hillary Clinton and President Obama. In this segment, we talk about Trevor Noah, Bill Maher, and Samantha Bee’s smug dismissal of progressives’ concerns.

PROGRESSIVE INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM: “Republicans Throw “Beer Bash” After Voting Away Healthcare for Millions” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

In a vote of 217-213, House Republicans have officially voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and replace it with a plan that would strip millions of Americans of their health insurance coverage and give tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans. To a normal person, this would be troubling; however, for a misanthropic, fascistic, extremist political party, it’s cause for celebration—and they did just that! Republicans reportedly ordered “cases upon cases” of Bud Light to celebrate their victory. Stay classy, a$$holes.

CANNABIS: “Jeff Sessions ‘Surprised’ Americans Aren’t Buying His Anti-Maríjuana Hysteria” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

Jeff Sessions recently indicated that he would not crack down on states that have legalized recreational marijuana because the Justice Department doesn’t have the resources needed to do so. Nonetheless, he’s been averse to legalization, and has repeatedly stated that he believes it’s dangerous. He recently found out, however, that Americans aren’t buying into his reefer madness, and he was “surprised” by this. Seriously, Jeff?

PROGRESSIVE INDEPENDENT JOURNALISM: “Sarah Palin Condemns Colin Kaepernick for Feeding the Poor” / The Humanist Report / Mike Figueredo ☮

Sarah Palin published a scathing condemnation to her website of Colin Kaepernick, the NFL star that recently donated $50,000 to Meals on Wheels in response to President Trump’s decision to cut funding for the program. Meals on Wheels is a program that feeds the poorest Americans, and as someone that identifies with the Christian religion, Sarah Palin should theoretically be in favor of such a decision, but she instead slammed the donation as a “political move.” Hey Sarah, why don’t you reread that bible you like to throw in other peoples’ faces so much.
