  1. At age 76, I have had doubts about religion
most of life. Religion simply makes no sense
I have found that my non beliefs must be kept to myself to protect me from fundamentalists who think I must be Satanic because I don’t believe as they do. Ricky Gervais has given me a perfect retort to these nonthinkers. Thank
you, Mr Gervais! What a perfect response!
How arrogant it is for any religious believers
To think that they know the only answers. To the Christians who insist that Christ is the only true God, I say you are ignorant and arrogant. Most Christians don’t follow Christ’s beliefs anyhow. They only look out for only themselves. Not as Christ, who was a really good person, but a bit delusional, although he dis care for the poor and oppressed. How many Christians follow His teachings? None that I can see. Making money and ignoring the needs of others seems to be their only religion.

  2. Lot of tripe from believers as usual. Referring to an ancient book (talking snakes and donkeys!!) as proof without any modern ‘happenings’ or tangible pragmatic evidence of ‘God’ is easily dismissible. Enjoy your one life and don’t waste it planning the next.

  3. The only fact we have here is that Ricky has achieved his goal….to ridicule the one true God, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

    • No, there are many gods. None of them are any more real than any of the others. They can be ridiculed all we like and they won’t mind a bit.

  4. the facts that remains obvious is science has delivered living miracles that we all benefit from while religion , anyone of them take your pick, has become more of a mythology we only read about in ancient hiolly books. Did “God” lost interest in showing miracles on a large scale or we are too much of a challenge to impress. Faith is a very powerful and dangiourse source of energy when it goes unchecked it produce more harm than good. Thing logical and keep faith in the formula but don’t let ie tKe control of logic.

  5. The problem with Ricky’s assertion is that it’s a massive oversimplfication. Christianity, Islam and Judaism all recognize the same deity – the God of Abraham, but believe different paths to a relationship. They are all monotheistic religions and are represent the beliefs of the majority of today’s believers. Polytheistic religions such as Hinduism actually believe In a single supreme God but identify with many smaller gods (such as Krishna) who allow them to connect with the supreme God on earth. Using references such as Ancient Greek Gods is largely irrelevant to current societies. So today’s faithful generally beleive in the same ultimate supreme God but have different beliefs as to the way to truth. Ricky appears to not beleive in that one Ultimate God. He does however appear to beleive in himself.

      • Does he? You have met him, face to face? Or is he merely the magic image on your tv?
We all believe in something, be sure your faith is in something worthy.

    • Everyone needs to, and should believe, in themselves. My father often told me “If you want something done don’t wait for a non-existent God to do it for you or it will never get done.” My life experience has convinced me that he was 100% correct.

  6. I ‘believe’ in the ‘one’ ‘true’ ….ummm…. ‘I’….errr….damn pesky words never quite able to point to the moon

  7. Ricky Gervais is interesting; he’s not funny when he’s trying to be funny and he’s funny when he is trying to be not funny, especially in his comments here. Ricky, don’t give up your day job.

  8. The big flaw for Ricky is that his ego is out of control…..there is so much fact in the Bible that it actually takes more faith not to believe in the one true God and his son Jesus who he sent to save us.

    • What definition of the word “fact” do you use to be able to assert that anything in the bible proves the existance of a god or the divinity of Jesus? I would love to see an example of those facts.

      • Facts? It’s written by dozens of individuals, the timeline is messed up, chapters were left out by not being canonized.

    • The Bible is NOT a book of facts! All fact books have one thing in common… They all have dates! Something the Bible does not have!

China is the most populated Country in the world. That is 100% fact! It can not be argued! In Dec. 1980, John Lennon was shot and killed in New York by a deranged fan… That is fact, it can not be argued!

Do not take the Bible as a book of facts! God is a belief. That’s all God can be with no phisical proof!

      • Er….oh dim ones, it’s a historical book. Dead Sea scrolls is one, archeological discoveries another…..read it and then decide.

      • That was a pretty foolish statement, how many facts would you like?
Cyrus lead the Medo Persian army against Babylon
Many Israelite kings are named with dates for each
Solomon’s Temple was destroyed by the Babylonians, then rebuilt with the help of the Medo Persian kings and destroyed by the Romans
Many cities described have been discovered and studied and some still exist
Jesus of Nazereth, Herod, Pilot are all historical figures

  9. That is why agnosis (the search for knowledge) is superior to atheism!! Never stop questioning!!! P. Lazdins

    • Well, questioning forever isn’t good either. The purpose of questioning is to discover an answer. There are answers, and when we find them we should be able to recognize them.

  10. We already know human beings exist. They do not defy the laws of physics. However, “supernatural” (sic) beings would; therefore, they cannot exist by definition (because everything that exists is part of nature). For something to exist it has to be somewhere and it has to be made of something. It has to be, in other words, physical.

Believing what we want to believe, because it’s convenient, is lazy and totally dishonest. Especially when those beliefs were put into our heads by other people when we were very young. It’s time to grow up.

    • There was a book written in the 1960’s entitled Your God is Too Small. There is room for mystery in life.

      • Hello Frank, and thank you for your reply.

There may well be room for a lot of different kinds of mysteries in life, but the existence of a magical being that defies logic, reason, evidence, and physical laws is certainly not one of them.

    • This one is too easy.
The word “supernatural” is used to describe something we do not understand regardless of its existence. We discover new species of plants and animals frequently, they of course existed prior to our knowledge of them. Three hundred years ago we didn’t know what bacteria, viruses were, or what was inside a cell, they all existed, outside our knowledge.

  11. If we had a Ricky Gervais convention and everyone came posing as you, that would not negate the fact that there was actually only one true you. The real problem would be finding out who the real you was. What kind of evidence would we look for?
