Your best post ever! This is one of those historical facts brushed aside or totally ignored in the American education system and public narrative. Ask most Americans who the Nazis were and “atheist” will most likely be one of the descriptors used. While there were some atheists among them, of course, the vast German public, including the churchgoing public, all got in line and it wasn’t because they were forced to do so. The hateful, exclusionary rhetoric of fascism registered perfectly with Christian anti-Judaism. Centuries of constant anti-Semitism finally had its culmination in Nazi Germany.
