Spiritual teacher Rob Bell believes that atheism is eroding certain religious teachings, and it’s a good thing. Bell’s latest book is “How to Be Here: A Guide to Creating a Life Worth Living.”
These are not books debunking creationism, nor an item-by-item critique of the factual plausibility of holy writings, nor a demonstration of their historic shortcomings when compared to current notions of progressive humanist morality, nor are they an overt attack against religion. Since you are already an atheist, I assume you don’t need convincing anymore. Rather, they are about understanding your world and yourself without religion. These ideas are not new. Generally speaking, they are not trying to convince the reader. They are proposals for a different way of understanding reality without a god, logic, ethics, morality and yourself – perhaps the hardest thing to objectively fully understand in life.

If the ideals of Islamism came out of Trump’s mouth, how would the Left & Right react? If any Muslims do respond to this cartoon, I have a couple predictions:
1. Some will respond by saying that the verses are out of context (standard response), but notice that none of these verses are actually justified by their context.
2. Some other verse will be presented that contradicts one of the verses I used, which proves nothing other than the fact that the Islamic texts in question are contradictory.

“The Republican Party, as it prepares for its convention next week has checked off item No. 1 on its housekeeping list — drafting a party platform. The document reflects the conservative views of its authors, many of whom are party activists. So don’t look for any concessions to changing views among the broader public on key social issues.
Four years ago, the platform called state court decisions legalizing same-sex marriage “an assault on the foundations of our society.” Since then, the Supreme Court backed the right of same-sex couples to wed. But in two days of deliberations this week, platform committee members rejected all attempts to sound a more moderate tone on the matter.
