JOURNALISTIC OBJECTIVITY: “Anderson Cooper Confronts Attorney General on Anti-Gay Record” / The Young Turks / John Iadarola, Ben Mankiewicz, and Michael Shure ☮

“On Tuesday, CNN’s Anderson Cooper called Bondi out for her hypocrisy, grilling her about the contradiction between her recent statements and her anti-LGBT rhetoric in defending the state’s marriage ban, when she had claimed in an official court brief that recognizing other state’s same-sex marriages would “impose significant public harm” on Florida. Cooper asked, in light of that work, “Do you really think you’re a champion of the gay community?”

Bondi responded that her defense of the state constitution “had nothing to do” with not liking gay people. “My lawyer argued a case defending what the Supreme Court allowed the voters to put in our state constitution,” she explained, adding that “those words have never come out of my mouth.”

Cooper observed that, had Florida’s marriage inequality amendment not been struck down, “there would be no spouses [and] boyfriends and girlfriends of the dead would not be able to get information and would not be able, probably even to visit in this hospital.” “Isn’t there a sick irony that you, for years, were fighting that very idea?” he asked her.”

POLITICAL COMMENTARY: “Susan Sarandon on Hillary Clinton’s Foreign Policy” / The Young Turks / Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz, and John Iadarola ☮

“Speaking with The Young Turks Politics Reporter Jordan Chariton in California, Sarandon made clear that she believed because of the lack of media scrutiny placed on Clinton’s record, she viewed Clinton as actually more dangerous than the blustery strong-man running on the Republican ticket.

“I believe in a way she is more dangerous,” Sarandon suggested without mentioning Trump’s name, after Chariton asked her why Clinton’s foreign policy went largely unchallenged during the Democratic primary.

“She did not learn from Iraq, and she is an interventionist, and she has done horrible things, and very callously, I don’t know if she is overcompensating or what her trip is,” Sarandon said, adding, “I think we’ll be in Iran in two seconds.”

“So I’m curious to see if anyone brings up these things,” she continued.

“But this is what we’re fed. ‘He’s so dangerous. He’s so dangerous,’” Sarandon said, shrugging off Trump’s most controversial rhetoric as too implausible to be considered a serious threat.

“Seriously I am not worried about a wall being built, he is not going to get rid of every Muslim in this country… but seriously, I don’t know what his policy is. I do know what her policies are, I do know who she is taking money from, and I do know that she is no transparent, and I do know that nobody calls her on it”

POLITICAL COMMENTARY: “Attacking Police Now a Hate Crime” / The Young Turks / Cenk Uygur, and John Iadarola ☮

In Louisiana, it will soon be considered a hate crime to attack a police officer. The “Blue Lives Matter Bill” is expected to be signed into law by the governor. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards is set to sign a bill into law that would classify any violent attack on police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel a hate crime. According to The Root, the so-called Blue Lives Matter bill is the first of its kind.

State Representative Lance Harris authored the bill after Texas sheriff’s deputy Darren Goforth was shot and killed last year. “It looked like it was strictly done because someone didn’t like police officers, like a hate crime,” Harris told CNN.”

CANNABIS: “Congress Keeping Marijuana a Schedule 1 Drug” / The Young Turks / Ana Kasparian, and John Iadarola ☮

Congress has decided to vote against scientific studies into medical marijuana. Marijuana is currently a schedule one drug, meaning it has no medical uses. Some lawmakers wanted to change this, but they were outnumbered and outvoted. Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“While there is increasing evidence that medical marijuana could be a viable alternative to opioids in terms of pain management, a new report indicates that Congress is still not prepared to give the scientific community the green light to dig any deeper into this progressive concept.

Earlier last week, the U.S. House Rules Committee voted against two proposed amendments that would have required a special pain management task force to consider how weed might be used as an alternative or in conjunction with prescription painkillers.

Both amendments, submitted by Representatives Dana Rohrabacher and Jared Polis, would have given Uncle Sam’s new painkiller detail, a crew consisting of various federal drug and health agencies, the opportunity to look into “the potential for marijuana to serve as an alternative to opioids for pain management,” as well as conduct research that compares “the medical application of marijuana and opioids for pain management.”

In an effort to sell the importance of allowing the task force to include medical marijuana in its review, Polis explained before the House Committee that medical marijuana has already shown significant promise in deterring overdose incidents stemming from the abuse of prescription narcotics.
