POLITICAL COMMENTARY: “Attacking Police Now a Hate Crime” / The Young Turks / Cenk Uygur, and John Iadarola ☮

In Louisiana, it will soon be considered a hate crime to attack a police officer. The “Blue Lives Matter Bill” is expected to be signed into law by the governor. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards is set to sign a bill into law that would classify any violent attack on police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel a hate crime. According to The Root, the so-called Blue Lives Matter bill is the first of its kind.

State Representative Lance Harris authored the bill after Texas sheriff’s deputy Darren Goforth was shot and killed last year. “It looked like it was strictly done because someone didn’t like police officers, like a hate crime,” Harris told CNN.”

CONSERVATIVE CORPORATE MEDIA MISOGYNY: “Meteorologist Told to Cover Up on Air” / The Young Turks / Cenk Uygur, and Ana Kasparian ☮

Los Angeles meteorologist Liberté Chan was taken aback when one of her colleagues suggested that she wear a sweater by holding it up on screen during a segment. Apparently the station was “getting a lot of emails” about her attire.

HYPOCRITIC CHRISTIAN PEDOPHILIA PROJECTION: “Anti-Gay Pastor Arrested for Child Porn” / The Young Turks / Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Katie Halper, and Jimmy Dore ☮

An anti-gay pastor in Arkansas is in a lot of trouble. He has been arrested on 70 counts of child porn.

“Meet Dave Reynolds. He’s the recently fired pastor of the Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Sherwood, Arkansas currently facing 70 counts of distributing, possessing or viewing child pornography.

He’s also vehemently anti-gay.

The 40-year-old pastor, who has preached that marriage is between a man and a woman and that all homosexual activity is a sin, was arrested this week after police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a social media account in Sherwood was storing pages and pages (and pages and pages) of images of kiddy porn.

The account allegedly belonged to Reynolds.

In March, Reynolds informed elders at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship that he was under investigation for child porn possession. When they asked if he had engaged in viewing the material, Reynolds told them he had “not knowingly done so.”

DEMOCRATIC PARTY ESTABLISHMENT CORPORATOCRACY: “A WARNING to the Democratic Party Establishment” / The Young Turks / Cenk Uygur ☮

Corporations should NOT rule OUR politics. Establishment politicians have lost touch with the people. Corporations should NOT control OUR country. The movement is NOT about Bernie Sanders it’s about PROGRESSIVE values.

SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE: “Taxpayers Pay Over $1,600 per Prayer to Congressional Chaplains” / The Young Turks / John Iadarola, and Ana Kasparian ☮

We’re used to seeing big price tags on government spending, but how much could congressional chaplains really cost? Actually, a lot.

“According to Andrew Seidel of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, who did the math to determine what taxpayers are being charged for prayers in Washington, the total annual bill comes to more than $800,000.

Both the U.S. House and Senate employ a chaplain whose singular duty is to administer prayer. The budget for the House Chaplain’s office is $345,000, while the Senate Chaplain’s office receives $436,886.

Seidel reports that both the House and Senate chaplains earn executive level salaries which are equal to those of high-ranking government officials, such as “general counsels of the Departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force; the chief financial officers of NASA and the EPA; the Chief Information Officers of almost every major federal department and agency; and the Army’s Director of Civil Defense.”

The two chaplains earn three-figure salaries for presiding over opening prayers in the house and senate, which only convene about 135 days out of the year.”

POLITICAL COMMENTARY: “Here’s the Thing So Many Americans Can’t Grasp About Bernie Sanders” / Observer / Pete Ross ☮

Watching this year’s presidential nomination process from Australia has been a very interesting affair. I can’t say I’ve followed every single speech or piece of news, but I’ve certainly kept abreast of what is going on and have seen plenty of articles and commentary from people on my feed putting their opinions forward. What interests me the most are the people and media pundits who emphatically denounce Bernie Sanders and his supporters. The reasons all generally boil down to the fact that he is the reincarnation of Karl Marx and he wants to turn the U.S. into a communist state. That he is so far left of centre that he’s basically off the chart.

For those people, here’s a reality check.

Around the rest of the world, Mr. Sanders represents a point on the political spectrum that is mildly left of centre. His “wacky” ideas of free (and we’ll get to that term a bit later) education, free healthcare, regulating banks and corporations and so on are all actually staple ideas of many of the happiest and most prosperous countries in the world. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the happiest countries in the world index for 2016. The U.S. doesn’t make the top 10—but almost every single country that does has the kind of policies Mr. Sanders is promoting at some level. Looking at the other candidates, Hillary Clinton would in most countries be considered right of centre, not left. Donald and Ted? Man, those guys are so far right of centre you couldn’t plot where they exist—they’re pretty much off the spectrum.
